The gross and net weights of stainless steel plates are not fixed values, but depend on the actual weight of the specific plate, the packaging method, and the calculation method.
The theoretical weight of a stainless steel sheet is calculated based on the nominal dimensions and density (formerly known as specific gravity) of the steel. This is directly related to the length, cross-sectional area, and dimensional tolerances of the steel. Due to allowable deviations during the manufacturing process, the theoretical weight calculated using the formula will differ slightly from the actual weight, and therefore should only be used as a reference for estimation.
1. Gross weight is the counterpart to "net weight," and it is the total weight of the steel itself and the packaging materials. Transportation companies calculate freight charges based on gross weight. However, in steel sales, net weight is used.
2. Net weight is the counterpart to "gross weight." It is the weight of the steel after subtracting the weight of the packaging materials from the gross weight of the steel, i.e., the actual weight, and is generally calculated based on net weight in steel sales.
3. Tare weight is the weight of the steel and its packaging materials.
