Recently, JISCO Hongxing Hongyu New Materials Co., Ltd. successfully achieved the stable rolling of 2.5mm-thick titanium coils using a joint rolling line that efficiently integrates CSP (Continuous Strip Pick-up) technology with conventional hot continuous rolling. At the same time, the company completed the industrial validation of the ‘steel-titanium mixed rolling’ process. This marks a crucial step forward for the company in terms of high-end titanium rolling technology and flexible production capabilities, laying a solid foundation for expanding into high-end titanium markets such as new energy, chemical equipment and marine engineering.
During the titanium rolling process, the technical team confronted challenges such as high deformation resistance, sensitivity to high-temperature plasticity, fluctuating sheet flatness, and difficulties in surface quality control. Leveraging the production line’s advantages of a short process flow, high precision and highly adaptable equipment, they precisely optimised the heating regime, rolling rhythm, tension matching and sheet flatness control parameters, successfully achieving the efficient rolling of titanium coils in multiple specifications. In particular, the successful production of 2.5mm thin-gauge titanium coils has effectively addressed the company’s previous shortfall in production capacity for thin-gauge titanium materials.

It is particularly worth noting that, whilst conducting trial rolling of thin-gauge titanium coils, the team also carried out industrial validation of the ‘steel-titanium mixed rolling’ mode. They overcame challenges such as the significant differences in material properties between steel and titanium, their distinct rolling characteristics, and the volatility associated with process switching, thereby achieving rapid switching between steel grades and titanium materials and enabling continuous production. The entire rolling process remained stable, with excellent surface quality and high precision in flatness control. This fully demonstrated the production line’s exceptional adaptability in scenarios involving multiple product varieties, small batches and high flexibility, providing reliable practical support for the subsequent large-scale, low-cost and highly efficient production of pure titanium coils.
Since the commissioning of the hybrid CSP and conventional hot strip rolling line, Hongyu New Materials has focused on the transformation towards a high-end and diversified product portfolio, whilst continuing to deepen its research into special metal rolling technologies.
