Recently, the Chinese Society for Metals held an evaluation meeting for the scientific and technological achievements of Xiangtan Steel's project "Key Technologies for the Preparation of High-Homogeneous Extra-Thick Plates and the Development and Application of Thick and High-Performance Steel". Following questioning and discussion by the expert committee, the scientific and technological achievements were evaluated as reaching the international advanced level, and the performance of some products has entered the international leading ranks.
This project solved common industry problems such as low flaw detection pass rate and insufficient performance stability in the production of extra-thick plates, helping the company to develop high-end extra-thick plates for the needs of shipbuilding, marine engineering, hydropower engineering, high-rise buildings, heavy machinery and other fields. Among them, the crack arrest toughness of the 100 mm thick EH47BCA crack arrest steel is globally leading, the 260 mm thick EH690 rack steel has obtained certification from seven classification societies, and the 120 mm thick S690QL1 construction steel has achieved its first application in China.
Through tackling key projects, Xiangtan Steel has obtained 20 invention patents and led the revision of 10 national and industry standards. The results have been applied to a number of major national projects and equipment manufacturing, providing solid material support for the development of my country's high-end manufacturing industry.
